The Beginning After the End

I have determined that wherever I am, I haven't been here long. The feeling of gravity
becomes more prevalent as my vision begins to detect light. First light, then blurry textures, and finally details.
My nervous system has been awakenened to the dry air surrounding my body.
My body...I now inhabit this flesh, yet, the carbon atoms feel foreign to my senses.
In my right hand I notice considerably more weight than my left...I am holding a sack of some form of vegetation of which I do not recognize.
I now feel the cloth surrounding my body with more detail of their creases...these seem familiar...plant based cloth.
"Hmm...", I hum to myself as though I am testing the attenuation of my throat. I take a moment to scan my surroundings.
To my left, a slew of trees which emitt sounds of life, and to my right, vast fields of tall grass. I stand upon a dirt road, and I look
behind myself noticing my footprints leading to my current location.

I feel the instinct to travel in the same direction of the footprints, therefore, I will create more synchronous with the last.
With each step I can only ask myself within my thoughts "why" and "where". I whisper to myself, "Where is here?". The language is
comforting, but my tongue has never spoking this dialect. I gather that I am at least 3 meters tall...but I struggle to remember
where I learned the term "meters". I continue step by step as my mind's eye begins to reveal details of an intangible
past...a childhood...an adulthood...and even a painful death.

In the distance ahead of me I can make out a large wall made of tied posts which I can already calculate are far teller than I.
As I walk step by step, visions of rooms lit by electricity flash quickly enough to only leave a small sense of familiarity.
In my mind...I feel the soft chest of another being...as I explore this alien memory, I realize this person was my mother, and I
am a child. She is beautiful and kind, and she must have been the precursor to my adulthood. I can barely remember anything from
the adulthood superseding the childhood in my mind's eye...but I remember struggle. I recall that time moved faster than the moments
spent in my mother's arms. Just a short distance ahead of me is the shadow of the wall of posts, and I enter the shadow feeling relief
from the hot sun.

I take a moment to examine my surroundings: The dirt road leads to an entrance guarded by two bipedal and armored figures.
To the left of the road are numerous, spiked posts containing the lifeless and bloodied bodies of the souls which crossed paths
with the local authority. I take a moment to stare into the lifeless eyes of one of the executed. This lifeless figure does not
resemble any being from the memories flashing inside my mind. I glance at the bowl of water at the foot of the corpse, possibly an
offering to the dead by the families of the deceased. The light refracts an image of my face back to me as I peer into the clear
fluid...my facial characteristics resemble the dead around me. I continue with my bag of plant matter to the entrance careful not
to offend any of the inhabitants beyond these posts.

As I approach the guards, one speaks to me, but my memories do not recognize the dialect, however, my primal brain does, and I
respond naturally in the same dialect. The guard acts to me as though I am no stranger, and we have met many times before under
the exact same circumstances. The guard grants access to me as he opens the large, thick doors. Beyond the doors is a small
village...dwellings that are far more primitive than the shelters and elaborate architecture I remember in my past. Unlit torches
sit burned in the sunlight as feathered animals and other domesticated beasts walk untethered around the path, but they do not resemble
any quadrapeds in my memory. In fact, I have a clear memory of a harry, four-legged creature which shared a mutual love with me.
"Kaity", I whisper to myself. In my mind I associate the name with the classification "dog", yet the animal in my mind has no resemblance
to any of the animals surrounding me now. I continue walking as I absorb the details of my surroundings while my destiny is predetermined
by my physical body. My memories do not offer any evidence that what I am seeing...feeling...hearing has ever been experienced before
by the entity I call "myself", however, my purpose is predetermined by my nervous system working outside of the realms of my memories.

I stop in front of a wooden stand on the side of the dirt path which has a thick, pink cloth draped across the top to shield the inhabitant
of the crude stand from the sunlight above. The entity behind the counter speaks to me in its native tounge, and as my brain tries to
decypher his or her language, my body automatically drops the sacked crops onto the countertop. I recognize this act of commerce, and I
recognize that this entity is a merchant because in return, he or she offers to me a small cloth sack of what seems to be metal bits...currency.
I take a moment to study the facial characteristics of this merchant...long black hair covers his or her shoulders, and a single cloth robe is
crudely tied to his or her body similar to the one that I am wearing. The merchant's ears point at the top, and the pupils within his or her
eyes are vertical...this triggers memories of a small quadraped from my memories.. I hear his or her foreign tongue spit a sentence to me
that begins to make sense though foreign. I can understand that he or she just thanked me and wished to see me again next moon cycle.
I respond with the same thank you, and I turn to walk back to the entrance doors.

As I leave the sparsely populated town, I pass the impaled bodies once more instantly remembering to preserve my manners for fear of becoming
the same example to future wanderers. The thought of death brings to me a memory of which I have not reviewed since I have been conscious in
this body. I am running on a road, quite unlike the dirt road I am traversing currently, but a road that is solid, cold, and unforgiving.
Around me are tall structures of which the shadows would engulf the entirety of the small town from which I just now departed. I continue
calmly walking against the flow of my previous foot steps of this dirt road while I try to remember why I am running in this
memory...a threat...I am being hunted in this technologically superior land. I hide in the darkness while electrically powered street lamps
light the world around me.

In this memory I have wronged the system, but I feel that however I wronged the system, I did not act out of malice but out of necessity.
My memory's eyes view a broken moon in the dark sky which must have been destroyed by the same system from which I am running.
"Beautiful", I mutter to myself as my cloth robe begins to chafe my body while I walk..I hear my memory utter the same words but
with a tongue more adept at this language. Beautiful...as though I had not acknowledged such a simple beauty in decades...I feel
the memory of my mother flash in my memory's eye. Her warm embrace causes a tear to form because in that moment, I can feel it carve
a dampness in my face as I hide in the darkness. My memory as though asking me directly speaks in a language I understand, "What went wrong?".
On this long dirt road, I seem to be just as removed if not moreso from this warmth than the memory also trying to remember.
As both of my minds recall the same memory, a loud thunderous bang echos around the concrete architecture in my memory. Flashes of
my previous eyes looking down at my new wound assault my mind's eye as I continue down this calm, dirt road. Flashes of blood and
pain haunt me as my memory cries on the cold, dead street. Two menacing figures approach my withering body each dressed in the same
uniform decorated with gold. The memory is now getting too distorted to remember clearly. It seems the memory is trying to focus
on his mother's embrace rather than the projectile lodged in his heart. The memory ends here with darkness...

I look up one more time as I slowly follow the footsteps that I made early this day...I have been walking so long that I am
certain I have now reached the point in which I became conscious of this life originally. The slew of trees full of life now
on my right and the fields of tall grass to my left...I continue on this path anew.
